About Me
I've been taking photographs for a few years now and I've only begun to get a feel for what photography can really capture. I started taking pictures while living in Seoul, Korea and Presov, Slovakia as a way to capture more than simply pictures of friends or places I've been. Living so far away both culturally and physically from friends and family, it's difficult to describe in writing who I meet, where I go, or what I see. Sometimes, the only way to communicate what I've done or seen is through a simple picture. I took 9,000 photographs over the course of two and a half years, and I am pleased with my work so far.
I love photography. It is a relentless search for beauty. If I take a thousand photographs and even one of them is worth publishing, my day has not been wasted. As a medium, it can capture in a single image an emotion that would take one hundred pages (or a million words) to express. A picture of a child, a sunset, or a street scene inspires more awe, more sadness, more hope, or more smiles than almost any other medium.
As I've lived abroad, I've slowly discovered that the only way to truly understand a culture is to embrace it as a completely separate entity, rather than attempting to compare it to your own. The more you marinate in the local flavor of wherever you are, the better chance you have of making an honest connection with people.
